Day 11: A rainy day in Amsterdam
It’s nice that Viking doesn’t rush you off the boat, and you can choose your debarkation time if you’re not taking a Viking transfer.
The crew onboard the Sigyn was so wonderful, and we were sad to be leaving.
After breakfast on the ship, Viking called us a taxi, and we checked into the Kimpton De Witt, which is one if my agency’s partner properties, so we had a lovely welcome gift of chocolates and prosecco waiting in our room, along with daily breakfast and a $100 credit to spend in the hotel or their restaurant. (This is the typical “perk” package if you book any partner property with me.) It’s a beautiful hotel, very centrally located and near the train station. The rooms are spacious, but a tad dark… eco-friendly lighting design, I guess?
Our stay here was short, and we decided to just relax and wander… the green pesto cheese is amazing, and I personally don’t understand the hype about the fries? I prefer the raw pickled herring I got last time.
I wasn’t feeling well this day, so opted for room service and green juice while the parents went to dinner, which was honestly perfect.
We had tickets to Corrie ten Boom house in Haarlem (15 minute train from Amsterdam – it’s like a mini Amsterdam without the crowds ) as well as the coveted Anne Frank house tickets, reserved months in advance – I’d recommend those two and perhaps one of the museums, if you have at least a couple days here.
