Travel Diaries: Basel, Switzerland & Embarking on A Viking River Cruise

Day 4: Basel, Switzerland & Embarking on a Viking River Cruise

The trains in Switzerland are the nicest I’ve experienced in Europe, and I love that many are double deckers. We rode from Chur to Basel, by way of Zurich, which only took a couple of hours.

We took a cab to the Viking port, and after that point Viking takes your luggage and literally takes care of everything ❤️

We were welcomed onboard early, to enjoy lunch in the dining room while waiting for our cabins to be ready, which only took about an hour.

The cabins have both EU and US outlets, and I loved the thoughtfulness of having heated floors and mirrors in the bathroom 😍

We were offered a surprise walking tour of Basel that afternoon, which was wonderful. (I also found the tailors shop, but they were closed, so sadly I couldn’t ask if they were hiring… 🥲#expatgoals )

We were back on the ship for the safety drill, and then dinner. The quinoa, beet, and feta pilaf starter this night was perfection. 👌🏼

Such a wonderful start to our river cruise!

(Someone did ask me about the cabin size, and standard cabins are small, but honestly I was rarely in my cabin and didn’t even think about it until asked later…Viking keeps you busy! And I also enjoyed sitting in the Lounge or Library with a coffee or tea to warm up, when not on an excursion or otherwise occupied.)
